Dear Sharpstein Families,

Welcome back! I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits as we continue our journey through this school year. As we work together to ensure the success of every student, I want to take a moment to reflect on a few important areas that make a big difference in our children's academic growth: attendance, home to school connection, and the power of daily reading.

The Importance of Attendance

Consistent school attendance is crucial for your child's academic progress and overall success. When students miss school, they miss out on important lessons, discussions, and opportunities to engage with their peers and teachers. Each day counts, and being present in school ensures your child is fully participating in the learning process.

Being on time to school sets a positive tone for the day and helps students settle into the classroom routine. Arriving late can disrupt the flow of learning and cause students to miss important instructions. We understand that mornings can be hectic, but we encourage families to plan ahead so that students can arrive on time and ready to learn.

We understand that sometimes circumstances make attendance challenging, but we ask that you make every effort to have your child at school on time, every day. If your child is struggling with attendance for any reason, please reach out to us so we can work together to address the issue.

Home to School Connection

Our teachers are dedicated to the success of every student, and maintaining open lines of communication between families and educators is key. We encourage you to connect with your child’s teachers regularly—whether it’s through emails, parent-teacher conferences, or quick check-ins. Teachers can provide valuable insights into your child’s progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. In turn, your feedback is equally valuable in helping us support your child’s growth.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child’s education, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to help and collaborate with you to ensure your child’s success.

As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the school year, we recognize that there may be times when both students and families need additional support. Whether it's to help with understanding new classroom materials, emotional or social challenges, or connect to community resources,  we are here for you. Never hesitate to reach out to teachers, our counselor, Community in School liaison, or the office if you need assistance. It’s our goal to work together to provide the best possible learning experience for your child.

Reading 20 Minutes a Day

One of the most powerful habits you can help foster in your child is the daily practice of reading. Research shows that reading just 20 minutes a day has a profound impact on a child’s vocabulary, comprehension, and overall academic success. We encourage you to make reading a part of your family’s daily routine. Whether it’s reading aloud, taking turns with a book, or listening to an audiobook, carving out time for reading each day is an investment in your child’s future.

If you need help finding books or resources that are appropriate for your child’s age and reading level, please don’t hesitate to ask, we are here to guide and support you in this important endeavor.

Together, We Can Achieve More

We are all partners in your child’s education, and together, we can create an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Your involvement in ensuring your child’s regular attendance, your communication with teachers, and your support for daily reading all contribute to the success of our students.

Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to your child’s education. Let’s continue to work together to make this school year a great one!

Sincerely,
Sarah Edwards
